¨Gary¨ is all about making people smile. The materials we used were rocks, leaves, and flowers. We used these materials because we built a rock pyramid, and we wanted it to pop. We also wanted to not have a super complicated art piece. One other thing that was fun about making this work of art was being outside and having the freedom to do any sort of art that we agreed on. Something that was very tricky was getting the rock tower to stay up. It was nice to work with partners because we could all talk about ideas for the sculpture together. All of our ideas together made our project better than if it was just one person's ideas. I’m glad my partners and I decided on the sculpture we did because it was very fun to make and it brightens the community.
Our art installation, which we named Gary, celebrates the ordinary things that you can find on the ground, like rocks and sticks. It makes it into something more interesting than it was before. We used rocks, leaves, and flowers. We used these because they were just around and laying on the ground and were very accessible. I like building things, but I haven't been doing that much lately because we are building a house. That's my family's priority so it was nice to do something with my hands besides using clay.
Gary celebrates the rocks and flowers around the area because it is made of those things. So it celebrates the nature in the area. We worked with partners and it was challenging because you don't get to do your own creation. But we worked through it by having everyone get to share one idea and put them together. It was nice because you can have help and other ideas which you might like better than your original plan.
