Why is the Atmosphere Important? See the short video below.
Without an atmosphere, life on the moon would be rough. Teams of students constructed moon habitat prototypes suitable to withstand the harsh conditions on the moon. Specifically, the structures must be lightweight for transport, thoroughly insulated to guard against the extreme temperature fluctuations on the moon, and strong enough to protect inhabitants from meteor strikes. Habitats must also include an airlock chamber for transitioning from the pressurize interior to the vacuum of space. The images below show the structures, without the insulated outer casing.
