Makedo is a simple to use, open-ended system of tools for creative cardboard construction. The kit contains a small cardboard-cutting saw (made out of plastic and safe for student use), a screwdriver, and corresponding plastic screws designed to connect pieces of cardboard. We have several kits available here at Section. Please note - once projects are completed, they should be disassembled and the screws returned to the Makedo kits so another student can use them in the future.
Visit the Makedo website (link) for more information and a gallery of project ideas.
We have a sewing machine in the Innovation Station! Don't be afraid to give it a whirl. Currently, we have piles of scrap fabric, but do not have an assortment of threads. The machine has needles and bobbins and is in working order.
Do you dread trying to cut styrofoam? The squealing, the little pieces of foam flaking off everywhere... We have a Styrofoam cutter available to make this process both easier and neater. Notes from the manufacturer:
▶ Clean-and-Smooth Cutting: The heated rod quickly cuts Styrofoam, sealing the edges and leaving no debris!
▶ ON/OFF Switch & LED Indicator Light: The ON/OFF Switch is conveniently on the handle. A LED Indicator Light next to the switch lights up when the cutter is on (if the cutter is on, it will be hot - do not touch!)
▶Applications: Suitable for cutting low density Styrofoam. Can cut in straight lines or at angles for sculpting models.
▶ Strong-Quality & Comfortable-Grip: The Cutting Pen/Needle/Rod is securely mounted in the base; it doesn't bend much even carving through large pieces of styrofoam.
▶Product Maintenance: Allow the cutter to rest after 45 minutes of usage.
Coping saws are excellent tools for cutting small pieces of wood, including dowel rods and popsicle sticks.
With its large handle and angled blade, these are specifically designed to cut cardboard.
