Winter Track

Highlights

During last year's season we saw some great performances by some of our youngest athletes. We are extremely excited to build this program with our current athletes as well as add more talent and compete for Monmouth County and State Group 2 titles.

Coach's Corner

Welcome to Winter Track and Field! This one of the most underrated seasons in all of high school sports. If you are a dedicated track athlete this is the best time to start getting ready for the big Spring Track season. If you are a dedicated soccer, football, field hockey, baseball or softball athlete this is the best way to get in shape for your sport because you will be running and going to the weight room with an organized program that will hold you accountable. No only will you be working with great coaches and teammates, but it is totally free to you and your parents. Not only will you see your overall athletic performance improve, but you will also have fun bonding with teammates at practices, meets, and pasta parties!

Forms & Letters

Dear Student Athletes and Parents,

If your family is new to the Winter Track and Field program, there are a few things you should be familiar with.

Although we practice outside, all of our meets are indoors. There are limited facilities close to Matawan so we need to travel in order to compete. We attend meets in Toms River, Jersey City, New York City, and Staten Island just to name a few. With the current COVID 19 restrictions, we anticipate most meets being at Tom River or Jersey City this year. Between travel time and the actual meet itself, these competitions often last 5 hours or more. Most of our meets will be Friday afternoon after school or Saturday morning.

There will occasionally be meets on weekdays. On these nights, there is a good chance that our athletes will not get home until late evening. We want you to be aware of this so you can plan around academics and other commitments that you may have. We hope you support our efforts to get the athletes the best competition possible.

When meets begin, you will need to either bring food and a drink for the meet or money to buy food from available vendors. We will update you with any COVID 19 guidelines that the venues provide us in regards to food and drink. At no time should athletes ever leave the facility in which we are having the meet. We usually travel with 40-60 athletes at a time so it is imperative that coaches know where everyone is at all times.

In addition, if a student/athlete needs to be picked up early from a meet, you must fill out a school issued travel release form. These forms are located in the athletic office or the athletic office website. Without this form, we are unable to allow your athlete to leave the meet location.

We are very excited about this upcoming season and hope you are too. If you have any questions or concerns please contact us.

Thank you.

COVID 19 Updates

11/11 Message from the president of our track association.

The Shore Track Coaches Association, like the rest of the state, is in a holding pattern when it comes to the winter season. The NJSIAA does not plan on releasing the plan for winter sports until 11/20. Until then, there is no news. Once we know there is a season we can begin to plan.

Sincerely,

Todd Briggs

President, STCA

11/19 NJSIAA Update.

The NJSIAA has provided new information for our season. Please read below:

Indoor track is now in "Season 2A" and will begin practices on February 1, 2021. Competitions will begin on February 16, 2021. Any postseason activities that can be planned will end by March 27 2021

Please read this link for a detailed report from the NJSIAA

NJSIAA Winter Report

11/23 NJSIAA Update.

Executive Order #194 - Interstate Travel

This Executive Order is specific to indoor sports and restricts a member school from hosting interstate competition (which includes scrimmages), regardless if the competition is held at a facility within NJ or outside NJ. However, practices are allowed to be hosted at a facility out of state. Therefore, member schools cannot host competition at a facility located in a neighboring state but they can host practices. We will update you should any action be taken by the Governor that updates this Executive Order.

Virtual Contact/Workouts

Virtual contact/workouts are prohibited until you hear otherwise. We will advise at a later date should virtual contact/workouts be permissible prior to the start of Season 2.

11/24 Update from our Athletic Director Phil Tyburczy

With our District moving to remote learning from 11/30 - 1/18, our Winter sports teams will remain on schedule for participating in person / conducting try-outs and practices according to NJSIAA revised start dates.
