Principal's Message

It was wonderful seeing you all today to share all of the wonderful work from World Book Day. Reading is a huge priority here at Marden and we have invested heavily over the past year in decodable books and our library.  Much has been done to develop our reading vision of Learn to Read, Read to Learn, Love to Read and we are thankful for your ongoing support with this.

Skills Builder

Very excitingly, the Skills Builder programme was launched in school in September as a way of ensuring that we are doing our very best as a setting to support students in building essential skills for learning and lifelong development.  The programme focuses on eight skills and is run from reception up to year 6, with the aim of students continuing this journey into their careers.  This week has been National Careers Week, which has been the perfect opportunity for students to see how the skills that they are learning can be transferred into the careers that they are interested in.  We have been so lucky over the week to be able to participate in some Q&A sessions with employers: year 6 had a zoom call with four employers from a range of businesses and year 5 were fortunate to have a zoom with Mr Dosad's sister!  Look out for more Skills Builder information coming soon and please feel free to get in contact with your child's teacher if your occupation links with their current module of learning and you would be free to pop in and talk to the children about your job/role!

National Online Safety

A free online safety guide on iPads.

When Apple unveiled the iPad in early 2010, they almost single-handedly rewrote people’s idea of what of a portable computing device was capable of – and sparked a tablet revolution. There are several very respectable imitators on the market now, but the iPad remains the standard bearer for tablet computers and still routinely shifts upwards of 40 million units every year.

Their immense popularity, of course, has made the iPad a familiar companion for children and young people: an auxiliary TV; an aid for schoolwork; and a blessing on long car journeys. That said, there are still some aspects of Apple’s flagship tablet that parents and carers should bear in mind to help protect their child from online risks – as our #WakeUpWednesday guide explains.

This guide highlights possible hazards including the risk of age-inappropriate content, physical damage to the device and potential screen addiction.
