Football finals

Tuesday 28th June 2022

After an incredibly successful league campaign, where the team went unbeaten, they finished top of the league and qualified for the finals day.

In a closely fought semi-final, Marden were pipped 3 -1 by a very strong North Borough side. Having gone 1-0 up, the team quickly slipped to 2-1 down. As they pushed for the equaliser, North Borough broke away and scored a third. It was a testament to the attitude of the team when the opposition manager came straight over to tell me about the wonderful sportsmanship our players had shown in defeat.

Following the disappointment of the semi-final, it would have been easy for the team to let their heads drop. However, they came out strongly in the 3rd/4th play off, playing with passion and determination. They tackled strongly, passed the ball cleverly and could easily have scored 3 or 4 goals. After half time, they finally got their reward, going 1-0 up. Some brave defending and excellent goalkeeping ensured that despite lots of pressure, they held on to win and finish 3rd in the whole of Maidstone. Well done boys!
