Proteins run our show. Muscles, organs, hair, bone, and skin either contain or are made of proteins. They are a major component in all of our cells. Enzymes that run the chemical reactions in our bodies are proteins. Proteins help us move, send messages (hormones and nerve receptors), fight off disease (antibodies), and transport other molecules and atoms around our bodies.
A protein is a molecule that consists of a chain of amino acids. There are 21 different amino acids to choose from, and the genetic information in our DNA determines how they're put together. A single protein consists of hundreds of amino acids, all folding into a structure with a specific shape.
Nucleus = This is where the DNA is kept in each cell.
The nucleus is like a library that holds all of the information about you.
DNA (Deoxyribonucleic Acid) = This is like a master reference/recipe/instruction book that explains how you are built.
They are the blueprints of your body.
Genes are like chapters.
Messenger RNA = This is like a photocopy of the plans/recipes/instructions.
The MRNA travels from the nucleus to the ribosome where it will be used to construct important body proteins.
Messenger RNA are copies of DNA. The DNA stays put in the nucleus, but the mRNA copies can leave.
The mRNA is a copy of DNA that is used to make protein.
Amino Acids = These are the building supplies that are used to make proteins.
There are 21 amino acids that our bodies use to make protein.

Amino acids (bricks) are put together at the ribosomes. Proteins are put out on the other end.
