Galileo discovered that all falling objects accelerate at the same rate in the absence of air. At a given location on the earth and in the absence of air resistance, all objects fall with the same uniform acceleration. Thus, two objects of different mass, dropped from the same height, will hit the ground at the same time.
A falling bowling ball has 160 times the gravitational force acting on it as compared to a golf ball. The weight force is greater.
The bowling ball falls with an acceleration of 9.8m/s2 because its inertia (mass) is 160 times greater than a golf ball. It resists the greater pull of gravity.
The force pulling down on a golf ball is much less as compared to a bowling ball. The weight is less.
The small force acting on this small ball with very little inertia also results in the same acceleration due to gravity or, 9.8m/s2.
The ratio of force to mass is the same as the bowling ball. Hence, it accelerates the same.
