Density is a fundamental concept in the realm of science. It allows us to grasp the amount of matter packed into a given space.

To determine the density of an object, you must know both its mass (measured in grams) and its volume (measured in milliliters or cubic centimeters).

On the other hand, if you have two objects that have the same mass but one is bigger, the bigger object has a lower density because it has less stuff packed into the same amount of space.
Density can help us figure out if something will float or sink in water.
The density of water is 1g/cm³ at 20°C. If an object is less dense than water, it will float.
But if the object is denser, it will sink in the water.
How can you tell if something will float in water? The density of water = 1g/cm³ at 20°C.
Answer: Compare the density of the object in question to the density of water. If its density is less than water, it will float. For example, oak floats because its density is 0.7 g/cm³.

Will aluminum float in water?

Density is also used to measure how pure a substance is. Different materials have different densities, so we can use density to tell them apart.
And in packaging, density helps us figure out how much space something will take up. V = M/D
