A message from Principal Vinten

Good afternoon Manara STEM Families,

Our Scholastic Book Fair will continue sales on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday of this week! Sales will take place from 11am until 4pm. If you would like to come and take your scholar book shopping, feel free to stop in, check in at the front office, and we will get your scholar so you can shop together. Thank you for supporting our school in helping to earn more books for our campus!

I love tying reading into anything scholars do! To celebrate the beginning of fall and the love of reading, we have a pumpkin book character decorating contest coming up! See below for more details!

The end of the first six weeks is this Wednesday, September 21. Report cards will be available to view online on Friday, September 23. If you have any questions regarding your scholar's grades, please reach out to their teacher through email or Class Dojo regarding your question or concern.

Thank you all for making our first six weeks of the 2022-2023 school year a success! Please read more of the newsletter for other Manara STEM details! Let me know if you have any questions or if I can be of service!

#MAWAY!

Aimee Vinten

The mission of Manara Academy is to provide students with a creative, adaptive and ethical environment to become knowledgeable inquirers and future leaders in a diverse and evolving global society where we master languages, honor cultural heritages, and respect diversity.

Enrollment

We are increasing our enrollment weekly on our campus! It is very exciting, as we love to see new scholars joining our Manara family each week!

If you know of any family who is interested in enrolling, please reach out to Ms. Smith so that she can contact them, or bring them by / have them stop by the campus so we can answer any of their questions! Any family who refers a family and they enroll their scholar, we will provide a FREE uniform shirt to your scholar as a "thank you" for referring them to our school!

Family Fun Event!

On Thursday, September 29 from 4:00pm until 5:00pm we will be hosting our 2nd annual Family Fun Event! There will be some super fun activities tied in to reading (see below regarding the pumpkin book character contest), and STEM! We look forward to seeing all families on September 29!

Pumpkin Book Character Decorating Contest

Fall is here! To celebrate this season, we will be having a pumpkin book character decorating contest! If your scholar would like to participate, purchase a small pumpkin (no larger than 8 inches in diameter, either real or craft pumpkin from a craft store), have your scholar pick a book that should be displayed (or at least the title and author) that they have read, and create away! Below are some examples of pumpkin book characters!

All pumpkins will line the hallways and scholars will have the opportunity to vote on three of their favorite pumpkins. Families will also have the opportunity to vote on September 29 at our Family Fun Night from 4pm until 5pm! Families attending the family fun event will receive 5 tickets to be able to vote for their favorite pumpkins! The top winner winner per class per grade level will then move to the final round, in which all scholars will vote again for the top three overall pumpkin book character. Fabulous prizes will be awarded to the top three winners (more to come on that in next week's newsletter)! Happy reading and Happy creating!

School Arrival Times/Breakfast

Scholars should arrive on campus by 8:00am. If it is past 8:00am, please walk your child into the front office area and sign them in for the day. Scholars are counted as tardy after 8:00am.

Breakfast is served from 7:35am until 8:00am. If a scholar arrives after 8:10am, breakfast will not be available, as the cafeteria staff have to begin preparing for lunch time. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to Mrs. Vinten.

Uniforms

All scholars should be in uniform. Please see the HOME page (upper right hand corner of the newsletter) for the link to the school uniform website (French Toast) if you need to order anything with our logo on it. All polo shirts (navy or gray) should have the Manara Academy logo, and all bottoms should be either navy or gray in color. Sweatpants and jeans are not uniform approved. Jeans can be worn on "Dress Down" designated days, but not during the week. Jackets/coats/sweatshirts should also be solid navy or solid gray in color. There should be no logos on the outerwear other than a Manara Logo (example, it should not read "Nike"). Some rooms are very cold, so please make sure your child has the appropriate outerwear available.

If you are still waiting for the uniforms to arrive, please make sure your scholar is still in navy or gray bottoms and a navy or gray solid shirt. Scholars will call home for parents to bring them the correct uniform/colors. It is part of our Student Code of Conduct (Level 1 Offense) to be out of uniform. Please reach our to Mrs. Vinten (avinten@manaraacademy.org) if you have any questions or concerns.

Forget-Me-Not Table

The "Forget-Me-Not" table was a great success this week. If your child has forgotten an item from home (backpack, lunch, homework, jacket, etc.), please leave it on the "Forget-Me-Not" table labeled with his/her name and grade level. Ms. Smith will check the "Forget-Me-Not" table throughout the day, but if you would also like to call our front office to let us know you dropped something off or will be dropping something off that is great as well. Having this available means families do not have to come inside of the building to drop something off and will hopefully save families some time getting back to work or home!

Lunches

All scholars have the opportunity to receive a free lunch through our cafeteria. Your scholar is also allowed to bring their lunch from home. Students will not be allowed to utilize the microwave we have on campus, as this is for staff only. If your student forgets their lunch from home, you can leave it on the "Forget-Me-Not" table at the entrance of the building. Thank you for your understanding!

Manara Watch

There is a new system in place within Manara for students to be able to report school safety concerns. Manara Watch is a safe place for Manara Students to report their school safety concerns anonymously. Students are asked to provide enough details so the concern can be investigated thoroughly. In order to utilize the Manara Watch Link , students must be a current student and use their student email address to access this reporting system. This site is also available through the Home page link and is also on Manara's main website.

PTO News

We have a wonderful PTO who are working diligently to make sure our scholars and families have fun and exciting opportunities available to them throughout the school year! More spotlight on them to come! Please fill out this link regarding a survey to try to best find out what time of day is most beneficial for the majority of families to attend after school activities. They have planned some AMAZING events and we want to make sure all families can attend! Thank you, also, to the PTO for creating the beautiful and helpful car tags for each family! If you are still needing one, or need an extra, please reach out to manarastempto@manaraacademy.org.

Friday Dismissal

Each Friday dismissal will begin at 1:15. Thank you for being prompt in picking up your scholar(s) on this day, as teachers will be utilizing the afternoon to enhance their teaching through professional development and personal learning community (PLC) time. Thank you for the help and understanding!
