Good afternoon Manara STEM Families,
Welcome to our first edition of the STEM Connect Family newsletter! Each week I will update the newsletter and send it out to you with information to help keep the lines of communication open.
We have had a wonderful first two weeks of school! I am excited to really dive into the school year because I know each scholar is going to SOAR academically and socially. Please take note within the newsletter about our uniform policy, as I know students are extremely anxious about starting our "Dress Down Friday" opportunity. Also please take note of all the upcoming events that will be occurring. Our fabulous PTO has been working hard to provide some fun events throughout the school year!
There is a lot to read in this newsletter edition! Thank you for taking the time to read it and taking note of the special dates listed at the end of the newsletter!
My door is always open if there are concerns, questions, or you just want to chat! Have an amazing weekend!
#MAWAY!
Aimee Vinten
The mission of Manara Academy is to provide students with a creative, adaptive and ethical environment to become knowledgeable inquirers and future leaders in a diverse and evolving global society where we master languages, honor cultural heritages, and respect diversity.
It was great to see all of the families at the Family Fun Event this past Thursday afternoon! We are looking forward to many more events to come.
Starting on Monday, August 22, all scholars should be in uniform. Please see the HOME page (upper right hand corner of the newsletter) for the link to the school uniform website (French Toast) if you need to order anything with our logo on it. All polo shirts (navy or gray) should have the Manara Academy logo, and all bottoms should be either navy or gray in color. Sweatpants and jeans are not uniform approved. Jeans can be worn on "Dress Down" designated days, but not during the week. Jackets/coats/sweatshirts should also be solid navy or solid gray in color. There should be no logos on the outerwear other than a Manara Logo (example, it should not read "Nike"). Some rooms are very cold, so please make sure your child has the appropriate outerwear available.
If you are still waiting for the uniforms to arrive, please make sure your scholar is still in navy or gray bottoms and a navy or gray solid shirt. Starting on Monday, scholars will call home for parents to bring them the correct uniform/colors. It is part of our Student Code of Conduct (Level 1 Offense) to be out of uniform. Please reach our to Mrs. Vinten (avinten@manaraacademy.org) if you have any questions or concerns.
Starting on Monday, there will be a "Forget-Me-Not" table located next to the front entrance of the school. If your child has forgotten an item from home (backpack, lunch, homework, jacket, etc.), please leave it on the "Forget-Me-Not" table labeled with his/her name and grade level. Ms. Smith will check the "Forget-Me-Not" table throughout the day, but if you would also like to call our front office to let us know you dropped something off or will be dropping something off that is great as well. Having this available means families do not have to come inside of the building to drop something off and will hopefully save families some time getting back to work or home!
All scholars have the opportunity to receive a free lunch through our cafeteria. Your scholar is also allowed to bring their lunch from home. Students will not be allowed to utilize the microwave we have on campus, as this is for staff only. If your student forgets their lunch from home, you can leave it on the "Forget-Me-Not" table at the entrance of the building. Thank you for your understanding!
We have a wonderful PTO who are working diligently to make sure our scholars and families have fun and exciting opportunities available to them throughout the school year! More spotlight on them to come! Please fill out this link regarding a survey to try to best find out what time of day is most beneficial for the majority of families to attend after school activities. They have planned some AMAZING events and we want to make sure all families can attend! Thank you, also, to the PTO for creating the beautiful and helpful car tags for each family! If you are still needing one, or need an extra, please reach out to manarastempto@manaraacademy.org.
We are starting something NEW this year on our campus! For those families who would like to celebrate your scholar's birthday by bringing in a special treat, this will be allowed on the last Thursday of each month at the very end of the school day. In order to help maximize learning time throughout each week, Birthday Thursday will give teachers the opportunity to have time to celebrate each scholar who has a birthday in that month. The last Thursday of each month, you can send in with your child (or leave on the "Forget-Me-Not" table) any store bought treat (example-cupcakes, cookies) and the teacher will have a designated time before dismissal in which the class can share in the treat. Please make sure the treat is peanut-free (even check for peanut-free processing) so we can include everyone.
Our first Birthday Thursday will be August 25! If you have already brought in items for your scholar and would like to bring more in that day (or not) that is fine! Please let Mrs. Vinten or Ms. Smith know if you have any questions!
Our first Fall Scholastic Book Fair will be the week of September 12-16. On September 12, each class will have a designated time to be able to "view" the books at the book fair and create their personal "wish list". On Tuesday, September 13, this will be the first "shopping" day. If you would like to view the book fair and shop as well, I will host a "Visit with Vinten" donuts and coffee session on Tuesday, September 13 from 8-8:30am, in which I will talk about some great things going on within our campus, as well as you can get to know me better! After our "visit", you can peruse the book fair and shop! Please sign up at this link if you plan on attending the "Visit with Vinten" meeting. I hope to see you all there!
Each Friday dismissal will begin at 1:15. Thank you for being prompt in picking up your scholar(s) on this day, as teachers will be utilizing the afternoon to enhance their teaching through professional development and personal learning community (PLC) time. Thank you for the help and understanding!
Snack cart will begin this Friday, August 26! Please email the PTO with questions you may have concerning the items available for your scholar! manarastempto@manaraacademy.org
We have a fantastic volunteer opportunity on our campus! If you would like to volunteer to help our Mini-Mavericks (Pre-K, Kindergarten, 1st grade and 2nd grade classes) during their lunch time in the cafeteria, please fill out this form. Volunteers in the cafeteria will help monitor scholars, help scholars open lunch items, make sure scholars are seated and safe eating their lunch, help monitor a low noise level and spend some time walking around the cafeteria engaging with scholars. The times volunteers are needed would be from 11:00am until 12:00pm. If you fill out the form with your eligibility, Mrs. Vinten will reach out to you regarding your volunteer day(s)/time(s). Thank you so much for helping our Mini-Mavericks!
