A Foxy Bunnymoon
Judy Hopps was no slouch, so it made sense that she found the idea of a nearly two-week tropical getaway a little disorienting. But leave it to Nick to offer a fresh perspective. He lay flat on his back, paws clasped behind his head, his dazzling emerald eyes and lazy grin laughing up at her.
“I have been waiting months for this.” She was kneeling over him, paw on hip now, looking mildly annoyed.
“For the vacation, or for us?” That single word was imbued with anticipation...so much that not even Judy’s measured tone and saucy smile could hide it completely. Nick’s own smile widened.
“Whoa...that’s a lotta weight to put on one little word, Carrots. Both.”
“Good answer.” She watched Nick watch her: expectant, patient—though rapidly losing it—and unsuspecting.
For most of her life, Judy had been in hot pursuit of her dream job. That had left little time for anything else. For instance, she hadn’t had time for dating. But that was just as well, because she’d made up her mind—something she was very good at doing—that only one guy would get to ‘try everything’ with her. She’d know when he showed up. And now he was staring her right in the face.
“Hey, Nick?”
“That’s my name...Don’t wear it out.”
“Remember how I told you that I’m the first one in my family to date a different species?”
“And marry one...Don’t forget about that.” Judy smiled and shook her head fondly; she wasn’t about to.
“Well, you’re also my first...first.” It wasn’t like Judy to stumble over her words, but when she did, she muddled them up most spectacularly. But then the rational rabbit took over: it wasn’t as though she was ashamed, and...Is there ever an easy way to say that? She didn’t think so. Meanwhile…
If she didn’t know better, she’d say Nick was doing his best impression of Flash. His laid-back expression slowly faded, and was gradually replaced by confusion, disbelief, and finally...warmth. It was the smile Nick saved only for those he truly loved, and, seeing it now, Judy felt truly grateful to be on that list.
“Judy, I...wow.” Those deep green eyes glistened with tears, and the bunny fought back a sob. “Can I have a hug?” As an afterthought—and yes, to lighten the mood in the way that only he could—he added, “No pressure,” making her giggle. Seeing him there, holding his arms out to her with love in his eyes, melted her heart. It was an exchange she’d never forget.
So, too, was the moment her fox held her close, whispering in her ear with exaggerated grandeur, “You may seduce me when ready, Mrs. Wilde.” Surprise flickered through Judy’s eyes.
“This doesn’t...change your game plan, does it?”
“Not really,” Nick replied casually. “All it does is change what I’m saving for next time.” He waggled an eyebrow at her. She laughed. Leave it to Nick to be thinking about next time when they hadn’t even started this one! She hadn’t even shown him what she could do…! She was going to change that. Right. Now.
Kicking her legs out from under her, she let herself sprawl out beside him. They were so close that their noses—and everything else—were touching. The first thing she did was cover his face in kisses—because, hey, bunnies are emotional. But at least this one knew what she liked, which is why she happily nuzzled Nick’s muzzle with her chin.
Her intentions made clear, she ran her paws through the lusciously soft fur on his chest.
“Gee, Carrots,” Nick taunted, struggling to speak as desire overwhelmed him, “for a rookie, you sure know how to get a guy warmed up.” Judy smiled—first with the pride of a doe on target, then as a self-aware bunny basking in the emotions stirred to life by her mate.
“This isn’t about you being my first, or even you being a fox. It’s about…!” When his tail, seemingly of its own volition, wrapped her in its fluffy embrace, she lost her breath. “It’s about you being the most wonderful mammal in the world.” She met his gaze and smiled. “It’s you, Nick.”
Normally Nick would have a snarky remark about how those two words were usually reserved for break-ups, but...He couldn’t think. He couldn’t talk. He couldn’t do anything that wasn’t directly related to Judy and the pounding she was causing in his heart...and elsewhere. Luckily for him, he didn’t have to wait long, because she grabbed his muzzle with both paws and kissed him.
He really was a dumb fox if he thought her kisses now would calm him in the slightest. Instead, the passion that poured forth knocked him senseless. He should’ve known she would never do anything halfway. He didn’t want her to stop: not more than long enough to…
“...Talk…?” Judy murmured. Talk?! There was no time for that! And then he realized—medical talk, which meant they were getting closer.
“I’m cleaner--than my record—Carrots,” Nick choked out, trying to catch his breath. “And my doc said that the interspecies—rate--is ‘rare’. That’s medico for ‘not happening’.”
“I’m as clean as my record,” Judy retorted, sultry. “And my doctor said the same thing.” For a split second, both looked lost, but they made an immediate, unspoken mutual decision to cross that bridge when they came to it. And enjoy the moment.
So she sat astride her mate and looked into his eyes...and when they found each other, she discovered magic.
