Open Textbook Grant Project - Call for Proposals
A regional consortium of seven Arizona community colleges, including Northland Pioneer College (NPC), was awarded $801,218 from the U.S. Department of Education for a 3-year project focusing on reducing student textbook costs via the development and sharing of Open Education Resources (also known as OERs). This grant is managed under the Division of Instructional Innovation, and this is the second year that NPC will participate in the consortium for this three-year grant project.
Through the Open Textbooks for Rural Arizona Initiative, the goal is to empower and incentivize NPC faculty to replace proprietary textbooks with OERs. Our initial short-term goal is to reduce costs for students, so they can accelerate progress through their programs of study. The long-term impact will facilitate a change in culture by establishing processes and new teaching methods that better connect course materials, pedagogy, and student learning outcomes. All faculty who are teaching credit-bearing courses towards a degree/certificate program are invited to submit a proposal to adopt, adapt, or create open educational resources for this grant project based on the following timeline:
September 19, 2022 – Request for Proposals published
Fall 2024 - Grant Extended
Ongoing - Proposals are accepted through Spring 2025
