Faculty and Staff at NPC have a new resource to learn how to design and deliver accessible material. A new online training course is now available in Moodle to explain to faculty and staff how to design accessible educational material including Open Educational Resources (OER). The course is titled: Designing Accessible Educational Material and it is available for self-enrollment for NPC employees at https://moodle.npc.edu/course/view.php?id=21160

Apple products have built-in features, such as adjustable text size, switch control, hearing aids, VoiceOver, Voice Control, and dictation assistance in typing.

MICROSOFT ACCESSIBILITY FEATURES
Microsoft has accessibility features and tools that make Windows more accessible to use. For example, the tools include such as Magnifier, keyboard shortcuts, Narrator, color filters, hearing aids, and dictation.

GOOGLE ACCESSIBILITY FEATURES
Google's accessibility features and products include such as Accessibility Scanner, Action Blocks, Android Accessibility Suite, Google Assistant, screen reader with Google Play, and "Ok Google" voice aids.

A color contrast checker can help to improve visual discrimination, the readability, and enhance the learning experience.
Listed below are some possible accommodations for students with disabilities. The technologies are dependent upon the limitations of the disability. The OAI application process includes providing documentation of the disability that includes both diagnosis and current limitations and a completion of the DRA application which can be found at the NPC website.
ABBYY Finereader – Optical Character Recognition software program for blind or visually impaired students
Adjustable Writing Slant Board – Allows students with limited fine finger dexterity or motor strength to produce handwritten documents
Big Track Mouse – Allows students with limited motor coordination to navigate on the computer
Ergonomic Chair with Head Rest – Allows students with neck or back injuries to sit for longer periods without exacerbating their pain levels
Clarity PC Mate – Enlarges information written on the board and is viewed through the students computer screen
Dragon Naturally Speaking – Allows the student to dictate and the software converts speech to text. Can also be used to perform functions on the computer.
Easy Listener – Allows the student to adjust the volume of the speaker without distracting others. Operates on an FM frequency and is a closed system.
Half-Qwerty Keyboard – Can be adjusted to accommodate a student with right or left side paralysis so they can use the computer keyboard with greater comfort.
Hand Held Scanner – Can be used by student to receive a test in audio format while remaining in the classroom to test.
Inspiration – Software program that allows the student to plan and organize notes and papers better.
Kurzweil – When used in conjunction with a scanner, allows the printed document to be converted to speech.
Live Scribe Pulse Pen – Uses special dot matrix paper to visually capture handwritten notes and can also digitally record lecture. Notes and audio files can be stored and manipulated on a personal computer to organize and study more efficiently.
Magnifying Lens – Used by low vision students to enlarge type.
MP3 Players – Used by students to listen to textbooks that have been converted to speech or audio formats.
Digital Tape Recorder – Used by students to record and play back lecture information.
Read Write Gold – Combines multiple assistive software packages to allow the student to integrate computer work in a format that they customize.
Scanner – Used in conjunction with Kurzweil software to convert print documents to audio format.
Electronic Blood Pressure Cuff and Stethoscope – Allows Hard of Hearing students to get human vitals information in a visual format.
Electric Table – Adjusts the height of a table to fit ergonomically with a student in a wheelchair.
Talking Calculator – Allows students who are blind or visually impaired to calculate algebraic formulas.
VTEK – Magnifies items placed on board and viewed on screen.
Victor Reader – Allows students to listen to audio books in Daisy Digital format.
Victor Reader Stream – Allows students to download and listen to audio books in Daisy Digital format.
Zoomtext – Software that magnifies computer screen and contrast.
