You can spend a lot of money on equipment, but for straightforward trips, simple, inexpensive equipment will often do. You also need to compromise between what you want to take and the weight that you are prepared to carry.

3 Season Sleeping bag

Pillow

Sleeping bag season ratings are designed to make it easier to choose your sleeping bag. Ratings range from 1 Season, designed for summer camping, to 4 Season, designed for cold winter nights.
Down is more expensive, however, for the same weight, it is warmer. Synthetic is better when wet.
Save space by using an inflatable pillow, a cushion or your down jacket rolled up into its hood.

Sleeping mattress

When sleeping on the ground, you need insulation from cold and dampness.
A foam mat is cheap, light and water-resistant.
A self-inflating mat is the most comfortable option, provides excellent insulation, however, are heavier.
