A waterproof deck which is worn like a skirt. The bottom part of the skirt is pulled over the entrance of the cockpit when a person is sitting in the kayak. It is used to keep the water out of the cockpit of the boat and keep individuals dry.
When kayaking you will need to wear:
Spray proof jacket (or a rain jacket) with thermal clothing (i.e. polypropeylene) or a Wetsuit
Footwear (old shoes or neoprene booties)
Sun screen
You may also need:
Wool/fleece beanie
Sunglasses
Communication device i.e. mirror, whistle, torch, flare, cell phone (in waterproof bag)
Tow rope
Compass
Map or GPS
Knife
Survival kit
First aid kit
Water bottle
Food
Map and guidebook
