comic relief

Welcome to my weekly blog and I hope you and your families are well and have had a good week.

Today has been filled with laughter and exciting events to raise money for Comic Relief. Students and staff were invited to come to school in non-uniform and to wear something RED with an optional 50p donation.

The fund raising hasn't stopped there either - this morning there was a junior bake-off 'Pizza Edition' with multiple class chart points on offer for those judged as the winners; Table Tennis and Music competitions, and at break and lunch time we had our 'Sponge a Teacher' event, which was hilarious to watch (see the pictures below). Furthermore, at the end of the day we have a Teacher Vs Student Penalty Shoot-out competition!

Events like this contribute significantly towards our schools Personal Development and Character Education curriculum. This provides our students with the opportunity to develop their intellectual, moral, civic and performance virtues.

Thank you to parents/carers, staff and students for your participation and support today, and to Mrs Sandhu for organising the event/s in school.

We would also like to thank our catering providers, Coombs Catering, for donating the daily takings for all food and drink sales towards our Comic Relief fund today!

Here are a few images from the day...

Year 8 Parents' Evening

As I mentioned in my blog on the 10th February, the Year 8 parents' evening will be held in school between 3.30pm - 6.30pm on 23rd March 2023.

Students have been making appointment times with their teachers ready for the event and we are looking forward to welcoming parents/carers into school to discuss your son's progress.

At the evening you will have an opportunity to meet and discuss your son's progress and you will also receive his latest report card. As I mentioned in blog on the 2nd December, the report card looks like the example below. It is important to understand the information that is on the reverse side of the report card as this information specifically refers to your son's 'Attitude to Learning' grades.

We would like for all parents' to join us on Thursday 23rd March as the event forms a critical part of our shared responsibility in supporting your son's progress.

Should you have difficulty attending, please ensure you have notified the school ahead of next Thursday by contacting Mr Mitchell, Head of Year 8 using the following email address - j.mitchell@lordswoodboys.co.uk

Sport fixtures and training schedules for week beginning 20 March 2023

Weekly sports round-up from Mr Janes, Director of Sport

Mr Deek's Year 9 Basketball team retained their position at the top of the league against St George's. Adeeb Haroon picked up Man of the Match Award with a dominant display.

The Year 11 Football team lost in their Semi-Final against a strong Coleshill side. The boys competed and did really well to progress that far in the competition. Ahmed Osman was the Man of the Match with a combative display, he showed great energy and leadership.

Mr Mitchell's Year 8 Football team were in action on Monday night. The team hosted Shenley Academy, who eventually won the contest in what was a close game. It was great to see a handful of Year 7 students play up a year and challenge themselves.

The Year 11 GCSE students took part in their Practical Rock Climbing assessment on Friday using our new Climbing Wall. Students will participate in two further sessions before being graded within the domain which will contribute to their final grade. In the photos you can see the students mastering the fundamentals before they start to use the harnesses and climb further up the wall.

Mr Oswald took a group of Year 7 students to the University of Birmingham for a Sports Festival ran by the University students. The boys had great fun and met loads of different students from other schools. The session was focused around multi-skills and teamwork.

Finally, Please follow the Physical Education Twitter Page for sporting updates and news - @LbsSport

You can keep up-to-date with all sporting activities when you follow our account and encourage the teams through the comments sections.

Weekly music round-up from Mrs Lowndes-Ford, Director of Music

Last week, the year 9 students took part in a Rapping Workshop with Shaun Tulloch. Shaun previously attended Lordswood Boys' School and is now a music producer as well as working at the Academy of Contemporary Music in Birmingham.

Shaun will be returning to school for our final week before the Easter break for the second part of the workshop.

Year 9 Student Helpers

Thank you to our Year 9 student helper for supporting the keyboard classroom project with our year 7 students this week. Adam chooses to support the music activities every Thursday lunchtime in addition to other students who support on other days. Excellent civic duties displayed to support others within our family.

Year 11 Intervention

The Year 11 Music Technology class are working hard to complete their music technology coursework. Students have been attending after school classes to develop and improve their practical coursework.

Thank you to Mr Jenkins for supporting the students.

Music Lessons

A reminder for parents/carers whose son/s currently receive lessons on instruments at the school - please ensure that you have a white music pass card to excuse yourself from classroom lessons. If you have lost your card, please collect one from Mrs Lowndes-Ford in the music department. Please also remember to check the times of your lessons. These are posted on the orange noticeboard outside of the music classroom and are updated for the week ahead on Monday at 8am.
