summer Home learning 2023

At Lordswood Boys' School, we recognise that strong literacy underpins all subjects and is crucial for success across the curriculum. It also goes beyond educational attainment and into adulthood, since strong writing, communication and negotiation – all needed for success in adult life – are supported by literacy skills. We are delighted that students continue to develop their reading, spelling, writing and communication skills with an array of activities taking place across subjects, as shared in the half termly Literacy Newsletter. This year we have 100s of reward badges earned by students for reading their library books and completing book reviews. We also have lots of students continuing to improve their reading ages across the year groups. In order to ensure that students continue reading and improving their literacy over the summer break, we have provided all Y8 and 9 students with Literacy booklets to complete over the summer and bring back into school in September. Y7 have been set the challenge to keep reading the LBS 150 library books and have been tasked to complete at least two book reviews and hand these to their new English teacher in their first Library Lesson after the summer break. In addition, Year 10 students have been provided with Maths, English and Science work to complete in preparation for Year 11, this will put them in good stead for their examinations for core subjects.
