The Physical Education department offers:
- A friendly, supportive and creative learning environment
- Exceptional sports facilities, sports hall, dance studio, fitness suite, gymnasium and field space
- A vast extra curricular program offering the opportunity to take part in an array of physical activities. From the traditional Football, Rugby, Badminton, Table Tennis and Netball, to Cheer-leading, Trampolining, Climbing and Swimming to name a few
- Numerous opportunities for all students to be involved in intra house and inter school competition in all extra curricular activities
- We also offer the opportunity at KS4 for students who excel at leadership the opportunity to be selected for our Leadership Academy
- Celebrations of our students' successes through a number of schemes. Athletes of the week, which is on the student forum every week - 2 students are nominated by the Physical Education department for their success within Physical Education. This can range from commitment, effort or excellence in and outside the classroom. School Sports colours, half and full - these are awarded to students who have represented the school and for taking part fully in the practices in all sports that are on offer at Longhill
What is the purpose of Year 7 PE:
Through a varied curriculum of activities, Physical Education at Longhill High School is designed to ensure students:
- Develop competence to excel in a broad range of physical activities
- Are physically active for sustained periods of time
- Engage in competitive sports and activities
- Evaluate and improve students' own performances and that of their peers
- Make informed choices about participation in a healthy and active lifestyle
What to expect in Year 7:
In year 7 & 8, students are taught in streamed classes, where they will encounter a variety of practical learning experiences; these will include working on their own, with a partner and in small and large groups, both outdoors and indoors.
Students will learn about "Me in PE" and will complete 8 lesson units of learning in Basketball, Gymnastics, Rugby, Netball, Handball, Dance and Table Tennis. The summer term comprises of Athletics, Cricket, Striking and Fielding and Badminton.
