Welcome to the Longhill High School Year 6 to Year 7 Transition Site.
At Longhill High School we recognise that transition from Primary to Secondary School is an exciting time, but can also be a daunting one for both students and their parents alike.
Because we recognise this, we are able to put together a comprehensive package of support measures that enable us to make the process of moving from Year 6 to Year 7 as smooth as possible.
Our work starts with members of our Transition Team visiting the Year 6 classes in our primary feeder schools to start the process of giving out and gathering information for our incoming students. We use this time to identify those students who may be more vulnerable or have specific educational needs, and look at how best we can support them. We run a range of activities, including Longhill High School tours, sports sessions, group work and one-to-one sessions with our transition mentors and our Summer Activity Days at the start of the holidays (24th -26th July 2024). We also have the New Intake Evening on Thursday 4th July where Year 6s can meet their mentors and parents/carers can find out more information about the school. On the citywide 'Moving On day' , Friday 5th July 2024, all future Year 7s attend Longhill for the day and experience some taster lessons in their new classes.
From the first Year 7 only day - Wednesday 4th September 2024 at Longhill High School we are able to provide a number of programmes that can support with self-esteem, nervousness, friendship, homework, literacy & numeracy, and behavioural issues to ensure students have a happy, productive start on their secondary school journey.
In addition, we also train a group of current Longhill High School students to support our new students in the transition process and when they start in Year 7, including Peer Mentors and Mental Health Champions to provide support.
