DRESS CODE

The LMUSD board policy regarding dress and grooming:

“The Board of Education believes that appropriate dress and grooming contribute to a productive learning environment.  The Board expects student to give proper attention to personal cleanliness and to wear clothes that are suitable for the school activities in which they participate. Students’ clothing must not present a health or safety hazard or a distraction which would interfere with the educational process.”

The LMUSD Safety Plan regarding dress and grooming:

“The California legislature has determined that "gang apparel" is hazardous to the health and safety of the school environment, and therefore, the wearing of such apparel may be restricted. All dress codes must be gender neutral; students cannot be disciplined or prevented from wearing attire that is commonly associated with the other gender.”

All students shall be required to show proper attention to personal cleanliness, health, neatness, safety and suitability of clothing and appearance for school activities. In every case the dress and grooming of the student shall be clean and shall not:

Any apparel which by virtue of its color, arrangement,, trademark or any other attribute is known to be gang related, is prohibited/

Each principal is authorized to establish additional school rules to address specific dress problems at the individual school. The rules will be consistent with the total policy and are to be approved by the Superintendent.


When a student’s attire is deemed inappropriate for school, the following may take place:    

First Offense:

The student will be asked to correct the issue by a staff member or administrator. Student is reminded of TITAN PRIDE. If the issue cannot be easily corrected the student will be sent to the office and the item or article of clothing will be confiscated. A school-issued replacement will be made available. The item may be returned to the student at the end of the day, or a parent may have to be contacted to retrieve the item depending on the severity of the offense or the response of the student. School Resource Officer may be informed/involved at any offense level.          

Second Offense:

Follow first offense steps plus: The student may be assigned lunch detention, as deemed by administration. Student is reminded of TITAN PRIDE. The confiscated item must be picked up by a parent or guardian.

Third Offense:

The student may be assigned lunch detention, Saturday School or other corrective discipline for repeated defiance of school rules, as deemed by administration. Parent notification or conference will occur and the parent may be asked to bring a change of clothes to school for the student, if appropriate. The confiscated item will be banned from school for the remainder of the year. The student may pick up their item on the last day of school.
