Updates and Weekly "Wanderings" from Principal Martellone
Dear Estabrook Families,
Happy Saturday! We're nearing the home stretch of the school year, which means lots of activities...end of year celebrations, grade five move up, field day, field trips, and lots more! Teachers and administrators are working hard to close the school year on a positive note, wrapping up lots of "jobs" and then also, start "dipping our toes" into the work of preparing for next year. It is a busy but exciting time!
Over the past couple of weeks, I've been able to attend both the grade five barbecue and the Run of the Mill. In both cases, it was great to see students and families enjoying time with one another and being an active part of the Estabrook Community. It was especially heartwarming at the Run of the Mill to see parents running with their children and crossing the finish line, and then also to see our students independently cross the finish line on their own as well. It was a good reminder of how we support our children, grit, determination, and perseverance. I was glad to be a part of that.
Mr. Martinez, the incoming principal for Estabrook was able to come to the Run of the Mill as well. I hope you had the chance to meet him! He will definitely be an asset to the school community. On July 1st, Mr. Martinez will begin his tenure at Estabrook and I'll return to my position at Central Office, luckily, being nearby in the event that he has questions or needs anything.
As always, we appreciate your continued support and partnership in educating our students. As we quickly move towards the end of the year, I hope that you can find some time to rest and recharge.
Best,
Mr. Martellone
All Student Library Books will be Due Friday June 10th. Please contact Mrs. Kuhn with any questions. jkuhn@lexingtonnma.org
Student COVID-19 At Home Antigen Testing Reminder
We continue to send home antigen test kits every other week for at home testing. The district has provided this form for families to use to report a POSITIVE students at home antigen test. You only need to report positive tests. It is preferable that you report the positive test by 9:00 AM on Tuesday mornings, so the nurses will check the form after that 9:00 AM deadline. This is only to report POSITIVE at home tests via the LPS At Home Testing Program; if your child tests positive at any other time during the week, please call the school nurses.
If you have not already opted in, this is the form to use to opt in to the at home antigen test program.
COVID Updates
The Superintendent of Schools recently sent out a communication related to increased COVID cases in Lexington and Middlesex County. As you might imagine, everyone is hoping that numbers go down, not up, however, as we "reopen and return" to normal, it perhaps is not surprising that we've seen increases. This has resulted in some new protocols being put into place through the end of the year to help mitigate increases in COVID cases. If you did not see the communication, please click HERE to find out more. As a note, we are asking the community to wear masks when attending large, indoor events. While every person ultimately has their own choice to make, we're hoping that as a community, we'll all work together to help lessen cases through the end of the year and beyond if needed.
Car Pick Up Placards for 2022-2023
We began working this year to standardize car pick up placards to make them easier to read for our car callers at dismissal. In the upcoming months, we will make a link available for you to use to order car placards for next year. The system will be simple...give us the grade and names of your children and we'll print out the cards. You can get 2 or 4, which helps when other people are helping with pick up. We'll have them ready for you either just before the first day of school, or you can pick them up on the first day, or we will send them home with students.

Run of the Mill Thank Yous!
A huge thank you to all the members of our community who joined us at the 13th annual Run of the Mill on Sunday, May 22nd! Whether you were running the race or cheering on the runners, it was great to see so many people out beating the heat together! We are so grateful to our fantastic race director (and Estabrook mom!) Carol Sullivan for all of her work in organizing the event.
We’d also like to thank Estabrook parent Katie Blauer for designing the graphics for the race, including the amazing t-shirt our first 100 registered runners received!
The race wouldn’t have been possible without our amazing sponsors, who generously gave donations, provided food, and offered services for the event:
Silver Level Sponsor: Penguin Coding School
Bronze Level Sponsors: Abbott’s Frozen Custard, Arlex Oil Corporation, Beth Sager Group, Chase Plumbing, Coppe + Sears Pediatric Dentistry, Il Casale, Russian School of Mathematics, and StretchMed

Composting and Recycling Lunch Help Needed!
We want to extend a very sincere thank you to the many parent volunteers who have helped with our Lunchtime Composting & Recycling program this month! We still have many open slots in June and need your help to keep the program going.
Lunchtime waste is reduced by more than 80% through these composting and recycling efforts. Plus, it's a great opportunity to see "inside" Estabrook during the school day and even say hi to your child! You can volunteer for a single date that works for you (or sign up for a few)!
PLEASE help to ensure Estabrook kids continue to lead the way to a greener future!

Looking To “Bee” Involved Next Year?
Have you been wanting to be more involved at the school, but unsure about ways to help out? We are currently looking for event chairs for many of our community events for the 2022-2023 school year! Some of the roles already have chairs and are in need of co-chairs, while others do not have anyone leading them as of yet. We welcome event chairs who have led events before, as well as families new to Estabrook or new to volunteering–roles differ in terms of time of year, hours required, and responsibilities. Please visit this Sign-Up Genius to view open roles and to sign up! Questions? Email info@estabrookpto.org.
Field Day Is Back!
Estabrook Field is back in person Friday, June 10! The event will be held from 9AM-12PM and we need parent volunteers to help!
Visit the Field Day Sign-up Genius to volunteer at a station!
