Updates and Weekly "Wanderings" from Principal Martellone
Dear Estabrook Families,
Happy Sunday! Today was beautiful out and with any luck, you were able to enjoy some of the spring weather. I hope that you had a fun and/or restful April vacation and that you were able to ease back into this week for work and school.
This week flew by, with students returning from vacation and jumping back in to MCAS and regular learning routines. We had a visit from the Superintendent, Dr. Julie Hackett, on Thursday and she and I, along with the K-5 literacy department head Kathy McCarthy, visited classrooms and watched students as they participated in a variety of literacy based activities (reading and writing). You would not have known that vacation was the week prior with students highly engaged in their classrooms. It was great to see students at work and teachers in action!
Teachers and administrators will continue working on student placement as we move towards the end of the school year. The input portal for parents closed on April 15th and we've begun to work on lists. Those placements will be shared with you in a summer mailing which generally goes out around the end of the first week in August (usually around the 8th-10th).
Our dismissal changes seem to be working well and we've ironed out many of the small issues from when we first started. Thanks for your patience as we continued to fine tune the process. We're in a pretty good place now and the timing seems to be working well!
Best,
Mr. Martellone
Walk, Bike & Roll to School Day
May 4th is a nationally recognized walk, bike and roll to school day where we encourage students and families to get to school via other ways besides cars.
If you are interested in participating, you can see more information here: Safe Routes page
Lunch Outside!
With some rising COVID numbers in Lexington, principals across the schools are looking for opportunities for students to each outside during lunch when feasible.
Starting this coming week, weather pending, we will be looking to have students eat lunch outside on days that are dry and wind is relatively low. This should be easier as the better weather seems to be more frequent.
Please don't hesitate to reach out should you have questions!
Robinson Road Pick Up
We have a number of families that pick up by car on the Robinson Road side of the school at the end of the day. This can be a tricky (and dangerous) time to drive into the small circle in the back where we have MANY students walking home.
If you pick up on the back side of the school, you should not be entering into the small circular area at the top of the playground drive while students are exiting school. Thanks in advance for your help with this.
Kindergarten Orientation and Screening Information
Information will be sent out to families on Monday, May 3rd regarding kindergarten orientation and screening. Families with incoming kindergarten student should watch for the email. If you have not registered your child for kindergarten yet, please do so as soon as possible as they cannot participate in screening unless they are registered.
Student COVID-19 At Home Antigen Testing Reminder
We continue to send home antigen test kits every other week for at home testing. The district has provided this form for families to use to report a POSITIVE students at home antigen test. You only need to report positive tests. It is preferable that you report the positive test by 9:00 AM on Tuesday mornings, so the nurses will check the form after that 9:00 AM deadline. This is only to report POSITIVE at home tests via the LPS At Home Testing Program; if your child tests positive at any other time during the week, please call the school nurses.
If you have not already opted in, this is the form to use to opt in to the at home antigen test program.

A huge thank you to parent volunteers James Garnsey, Trupti Lingaraj, and Niamh Gilsenan for their work organizing the event.
