Updates and Weekly "Wanderings" from Principal Martellone
Dear Estabrook Families,
I hope that you've had a great week and that your weekend is off to a good start! It looks like the predicted "hot" weather missed us and we had a relatively nice day!
This week was a busy one at Estabrook and throughout the district. We started the week with no Internet due to a problem in the head end room at the facilities building and the week ended with a fire drill (unannounced) on Thursday! Despite that, learning continued and students did a great job. We were able to evacuate all students and staff in just over 4 minutes, which is great.
COVID cases in Lexington and other areas continue to rise. While masks are not required, we're strongly recommending them through the end of the year or until we see a decrease in cases. That being said, no matter what your choice in regards to mask wearing, we respect everyone's choice.
We're gearing up to meet new families (and existing ones) at our upcoming Kindergarten Screening dates (June 1 and 2). If you're a current Estabrook family with a student that will be old enough to enter Kindergarten (5 years old by the last day of August) please be sure to contact central registration to have your child registered. You cannot sign up for a screening appointment until this is completed.
Mr. Martinez, the incoming Estabrook Principal, will visiting Estabrook tomorrow morning prior to the Run of the Mill Kids Race. He should be at the school at about 9am and if you're able, he'd love to have the opportunity to meet you.
Best,
Mr. Martellone
Student COVID-19 At Home Antigen Testing Reminder
We continue to send home antigen test kits every other week for at home testing. The district has provided this form for families to use to report a POSITIVE students at home antigen test. You only need to report positive tests. It is preferable that you report the positive test by 9:00 AM on Tuesday mornings, so the nurses will check the form after that 9:00 AM deadline. This is only to report POSITIVE at home tests via the LPS At Home Testing Program; if your child tests positive at any other time during the week, please call the school nurses.
If you have not already opted in, this is the form to use to opt in to the at home antigen test program.
Tardy Drop Off
Should your child come to school late, please do not drop them off and leave. They should be escorted into the building and you should check with the office to let us know why the child is late. We've had a few instances where students were dropped off late and had a challenging time getting into the building. We appreciate your help with this!

Composting and Recycling Lunch Help Needed!
We want to extend a very sincere thank you to the many parent volunteers who have helped with our Lunchtime Composting & Recycling program this month! We still have many open slots in June and need your help to keep the program going.
Lunchtime waste is reduced by more than 80% through these composting and recycling efforts. Plus, it's a great opportunity to see "inside" Estabrook during the school day and even say hi to your child! You can volunteer for a single date that works for you (or sign up for a few)!
PLEASE help to ensure Estabrook kids continue to lead the way to a greener future!

ACT Update and Thank You!
This spring, each grade at Estabrook had the opportunity to participate in a PTO-funded virtual ACT (Arts Created Together) performance. These performances brought dancers, story tellers, artists, percussionists, acrobats and more into Estabrook classrooms. This is just one example of where some of the membership money goes when families join the PTO–towards enriching and meaningful experiences for our students that directly relate to and enhance their understanding of curriculum. A big thank you to Trisha Perona for working behind the scenes to coordinate these wonderful opportunities for our students!
Looking To “Bee” Involved Next Year?
Have you been wanting to be more involved at the school, but unsure about ways to help out? We are currently looking for event chairs for many of our community events for the 2022-2023 school year! Some of the roles already have chairs and are in need of co-chairs, while others do not have anyone leading them as of yet. We welcome event chairs who have led events before, as well as families new to Estabrook or new to volunteering–roles differ in terms of time of year, hours required, and responsibilities. Please visit this Sign-Up Genius to view open roles and to sign up! Questions? Email info@estabrookpto.org.
Field Day Is Back!
Estabrook Field is back in person Friday, June 10! The event will be held from 9AM-12PM and we need parent volunteers to help!
Visit the Field Day Sign-up Genius to volunteer at a station!
Maker Night Thank You!
We had a great turnout at Thursday’s Maker Night–our first time having the event back in person in 2 years! Estabrook families took part in creative activities such as LEGO Masters, Cardboard Kingdom, Wand Making, Take-Apart Electronics, and more! A HUGE thank you to Event Chair Mary Carmichael for collecting materials and organizing and running the event.
