What a busy last few weeks year 6 have had.
In English, we have been reading 'Holes' by Louis Sachar and using this to inspire a range of writing projects such as diaries, newspapers and informal letters. The children thoroughly enjoyed becoming Stanely Yelenats and immersing themselves int he text.
Maths challenged the children these past couple of weeks. They started the term learning about BODMAS and order of operations. We then learnt about long division and have been tackling factors and multiples. The children have been able to gain a good understanding of these concepts through a range of difficult problem solving and reasoning questions.
The children have been engrossed in our science topic this half term - 'Animals including Humans'. The children can identify and name the main parts of the human circularity system and describe the functions of the heart, blood vessels and blood. They can recognise the impact of diet, exercise, drugs and lifestyle on the way their bodies function. As well as describe the way in which nutrients and water are transported within animals, including humans.
Topic encouraged the children to explore and discuss the ways in which landscape and coastlines have developed over time. They had some very grown up conversations about where the landscape will be going in the future and how this may impact their day to day lives.
From year 6, we wish you all a fun but restful half term! We'll see you all again on Tuesday 1st November.
