Year 4 having been busy this week. In English, we have created a new Roman God and written a newspaper report detailing their discovery at a secret Roman temple in a local supermarket car park. We used the 5 W's to make sure our introductions were detailed and used direct and indirect speech to enrich our writing. In Maths, we have been exploring different ways to subtract four digit numbers and have applied these methods to solve addition and subtraction 2 step problems. In Reading, we have practised ways to summarise texts and explored the works of Michael Morpurgo. In Science, we have completed our topic on Electricity by creating switches and seeing how they work in a circuit. We will be moving onto States of Matter and the Water Cycle after half term.
We have concluded our topic on the Romans by looking at how the Romans changed life in Britain for ever.
In preparation for our new topic , Frozen Kingdoms, we took part in a LGFL live lesson with an explorer who has visited both the North and South Poles. It was thrilling to see the different cultures, animals and geographical structures he saw during his travels and we can wait to get started with the topic after half term.
We have also had an assembly and workshop with Rocksteady and members of Years 3 and 4 worked together to create their own Rock Band , the Rocking Yellow Tigers and were able to sing and play the chorus to We Will Rock You by Queen in just over half an hour.
Please encourage your child to continue reading , completing Doodle and Times Tables Rockstars over the half term holiday. Hopefully, the children will be able to get their Bronze Awards for Reading 50 times early in November.
We hope you have a great break and we will return to school on Tuesday 1st November.
