What an amazing end to the half term year 5 have had!
In English, we have continued reading our book 'Kensuke's Kingdom'. The children have written some fantastic instructions on how to light a fire. The instructions were clear, concise and included lots of our year 5 writing features! We have also researched the importance of animal conservation and ensuring we are keeping the planet as safe as possible for endangered animals, in particular, turtles! We wrote a letter in the role of a turtle to persuade humans to keep our journey from hatching to adulthood as safe as possible.
During maths, we have been exploring multiples, factors and prime numbers. The children have enjoyed using the manipulative to explore different numbers and develop their reasoning skills of the above areas. We have been particularly impressed with the explanations some of the children have been giving during our maths lessons!
This week also marked the end of our topic! To celebrate, we have had our very own 'Explorers Day' in which we have completed a range of activities based on activities explorers completed. Some of these have been using our DT skills to create a boat, learning about the famous explorer Matthew Henson! The children thoroughly enjoyed immersing themselves into the topic!
Year 5 have also completed some fantastic pieces of art work which they have been working on the last two weeks. Last week, they were developing their skills of using water colours to create a background and merging colours together. This week, we have created a silhouette for our background based on our 'Kensuke's Kingdom' topic in English. It is fantastic to see the children transferring their knowledge of the book in English to support their brilliant artwork.
It was lovely to see so many of you during parents evening and share the achievements your children have made over the last seven weeks.
The teachers are looking forward to welcoming all of the children back after half term. We hope you have a wonderful break and we will see you on Tuesday 1st November!
