In Phonics Nursery have been looking at the sounds 'z' and 'qu' and learning about words that begin with those sounds, such as 'zoo', 'zebra', 'quick' and 'queen'. In Maths we have learning about big and small and long and short and using these terms to sort and order different items.
Our focus books have been the traditional tale 'Jack and the Beanstalk' and 'Handa's Surprise' by Eileen Browne. The children have enjoyed creating their own beanstalks using different arts and crafts as well as practising their fine motor skills by using tweezers to pick up beans. Nursery have also been very excited to see that our very own beanstalks have been growing well in the Nursery garden! They have also been using their fine motor skills to cut out animal masks and learn about the different animals and fruits mentioned in Handa's surprise.
In Computing the children have enjoyed using the Lego Coding Express train set to build upon their early coding skills. They have been using the different action bricks to make the train complete different actions, such as stopping the train where they want it to and getting it to sounds.Â
