What a great first week back after the October half term year 6 have had.
In English, the children have continued looking at our class novel 'Holes by Louis Sachar' and have began planning out their non-chronological reports based on mythical creatures. They really enjoyed designing their own creatures and labelling them with loads of detailed phrases. Take a look at some of the examples below.
Maths saw the children tackling fractions. They have been using their prior knowledge of factor bugs to help with simplifying fractions. The children have also been using bar models and manipulative to help them visualise which factions are the largest.
This half term, Year 6 begin a new topic 'HOLA MEXICO'! They throughly enjoyed immersing themselves into the Mexican culture by learning a Mexican hat dance, listening to mariachi music and making a topical drink called aguas frescas. The children are looking forward to learning more about thus culture and how it links to the Mayan Civilisation.
In DT (design and technology), the children have started looking at ginger bread houses which they will be designing and making this half term. This week, year 6 have managed to generate, develop their own ideas through discussion, understand the brief and research their own designs. We cannot wait to see what their final products will look like.
