Year 2 have made a great start this second half term full of learning and fun.
In Maths we have started to learn about subtraction and the different methods we can use to subtract from a 2-digit number. We can use a number line, dienes, crossing out, column method and we can also write a number sentence. We continue to learn our 2s, 10s and 5s timetables but we need to practise more at home, so we will need your help to encourage your child to play Times Tables Rockstars and DoodleTables as often as possible. Some or our children are becoming confident mathematicians whilst competing against other children in the same year group. Well done to our top Rockstars and Doodlers for all your efforts.
In Humanities we have began the new topic 'Land Ahoy' and we are learning about the lives of different explorers like James Cook. Through role play, we have put ourselves in the shoes of this incredible explorer before writing a diary entry to retell his experiences whilst travelling the world. We continue to edit and proof read our work so we can improve our writing skills. We have also discussed the meanings of new words and rescued some of them in our reading lessons.
I RE we are learning about Hinduism. We read about the most important gods and goddesses and found out their qualities and characteristics. We then reflected on our own qualities as individuals and drew a picture to describe ourselves and the deities. In PSHE we discussed how we are all different and special. We realised that we should not generalise because of our gender; we can both like or dislike the same thing.
On the first day back we had our Spooky Disco. It was so much fun trying to burst all the bubbles and dancing to some of our favourite tunes, dressed up in amazing costumes!
Our PE days have changed in Autumn 2. Crystal Class has PE on Mondays and Wednesdays and Garnet Class on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
