After their half term break, Year 4 are back and ready to learn. In Writing, we have been developing our use of relative clauses and prepositions (e.g. before, after, next to , under over). We have also begun to read our exciting new focus book, 'Ice Trap' which explores Sir Ernest Shackleton's expedition to Antarctica in 1914. We have thought about what sort of person would want to go on such a perilous journey which could end in doom. In Maths, we have been exploring the 6, 7 and 9 times tables and explaining the relationships and patterns in each. Next week, we will be investigating the 11 ans 12 times tables then using all the multiplication facts we have learnt to help us divide by 6, 7 and 9.
In Science, our new topic is States of Matter. We have explored how the molecules behave in solids, liquids and gases. Next week, we are going to explore if gases have a weight. In PE we have been challenging ourselves to beat our personal best in a ball against the wall challenge and refining our ball passing skills using multiple balls and balanced positions. In RE we are continuing to study Judaism and our big question is How do Jewish people show their commitment to God? We thought about the different ages that we are responsible enough to do certain activities and make certain commitments.
In Art, we made an amazing, colourful Roman shield and thought about how to join a boss to the shield and appropriate symbols and colour to use.
We are really looking forward to starting Forest Schools next week. Please ask your class teacher if you have any queries about what we are doing and how the children need to be dressed.
