The Leigh Youth Advisory Committee (established 2015):
The Leigh Youth Advisory Committee is a committee of Leigh area students in grades 10-12 who are committed to the future of the community of Leigh and aim to become more community and civic-minded. Students must write an essay to apply to be part of this group. This group is made up of Leigh High School students but is not affiliated with Leigh Community Schools.
--Members of this group must observe five community meetings a year. Examples include village board, school board, community club, Leigh Area Foundation, Leigh Investment Club, Leigh Volunteer Fire Department, and any other community group in which a member is interested.
--The YAC will put forth their best effort to help with any community service project that is asked of them.
--The YAC conducts a Student Community Attitude Survey every four years to grades 9-12 and presents the results to the Leigh Village Board and Leigh School Board, as well as distributes copies of the results in town.
--The YAC continuously raises money for projects to improve aesthetics within the community. In the past four years, in collaboration with the Marolf Family Trust, the group has purchased snowflake Christmas lights for the light poles on Main Street, as well as LED string lights to line all the buildings on Main Street. Next, they purchased a new scoreboard and flagpole for the Centennial Park ball field. Currently, they are raising money to build new bathrooms at Centennial Park. There are currently 16 students from grades 10-12 who participate in YAC.
