The school improvement team and staff met to review data for the purpose of setting a student achievement related goal. ESU 7 provided assistance in reviewing our NeSA, MAP and ACT scores. Our scores were at or above average. The CIP team could not identify a specific area of concern. With this in mind, we made the decision to focus on vocabulary across the curriculum in order to encompass all subject areas and improve overall achievement. The data collected and analyzed in this section includes results from ACT, MAP, NeSA and NSCAS, DIBELS and STAR assessments. Additional student performance data related to MTSS and the L to J Vocabulary process is included in the Vocabulary Action Plan section. Our analysis focuses on overall scores, as well as vocabulary in particular. Annual AQUeSTT results are also included.
In each of the four years of AQUeSTT reporting, the District of Leigh Community School earned a GREAT classification. For the 2017-2018 school year, Leigh High School earned an EXCELLENT classification.
AQuESTT Reports
All students in grades 3-11 take the NWEA MAP test once in the fall and once in the spring in all subject areas (Reading, Language Arts, Math and Science). Prior to the testing period, students are made aware of their previous test results and are encouraged to work hard to improve their scores. Students use the goal setting sheets provided by NWEA to set their goals in each content area. After tests are given, the results are shared with the students, parents and teachers. Administration and teachers use the test results to help identify students that may need interventions or be placed in alternative classes. The test results are also analyzed by teachers to identify areas of strength or weakness and to adjust curriculum and teaching as needed. Below are the results of the past years test data and short narratives to explain the findings.
All students in Grades 3-8 are assessed on the NSCAS test for Math and English Language Arts. Students in Grades 5 and 8 also complete the Science test.
The past three years, our students have scored the highest in the Vocabulary sub-category of the Reading Comprehension/ELA test. Our scores on the new ELA test dropped in 2016, as did the general scores across the state. In the spring of 2018, the format of the test changed to a MAP-based format.
Our Free and Reduced Lunch students performing at the proficient level remains below the general population. Over the three years of data, the scores indicate that the gap between our free-and-reduced numbers and our general population appears to be widening.
The DIBELS (Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills) assessment is given to students in Kindergarten-6th grade three times a year. This reading assessment shows students' current level of reading performance and identifies individual reading needs.
STAR Reading and Math is given to 1st-6th grade students three times a year. This assessment shows current levels of performance for reading and math. This timed reading/math test that students take on their computers is proctored by classroom teachers.
