Vocabulary Action Plan
GOAL: All students will show improvement in their essential academic vocabulary across the curriculum in all content areas.
Narrative
Through a variety of vocabulary strategies, student performance will improve in MAPS, ACT, DIBELS and overall academic performance. The High School Teachers will use L to J to track and enhance vocabulary knowledge. The Elementary Teachers will use MTSS to improve essential vocabulary knowledge. This will include a variety of activities gained from Anita Archer and Marzano Trainings.
Research Supporting This Intervention
“One of the key indicators of students' success in school, on standardized tests, and indeed, in life, is their vocabulary. The reason for this is simply that the knowledge anyone has about a topic is based on the vocabulary of that information" (Marzano & Pickering, 2005).
Strategy/Intervention
Teachers will implement a variety of strategies to help students improve content vocabulary. These will include, but are not limited to, L to J, Marzano Vocabulary Strategies, MTSS and Anita Archer Training.
