• 2 pt. constructed responses using Science and Social Studies topics
• Grammar Spiral Review including: Sentence Types, Parts of Speech, reflexive and intensive pronouns. We use Mentor Sentence to reinforce the standards. The Mentor Sentences come from the novel that we are currently reading.
• Informational Writing with Science and Social Studies Content.
• Annotation and Constructed Responses with Science and Social Studies content related articles.
• Various Readworks, and newsela articles for annotation and constructed responses
• IXL for front-loading, practice, and Mastery
• The Lightning Thief (characterization, plot, figurative language, point of view, Greek Mythology) Using hyperdocs
• Students will write an informational about Greek Mythology in LA, students will explore weather events in Science, and comparing rainfall amounts our city in math (interdisciplinary)

• PBL: Hydrology- ELA Component: Students will write an informational writing, answering 2 of the following questions:

1. Research/explain the water wars between GA and FL.
2. Compare water issues in the Amazon vs. water issues(pollution, shortages, etc) in GA.
3. Compare water quality in GA vs Europe, South America, or Australia.
4. What happens if we run out of water?

• STEM Extension: Students will complete a 5 minute video (or less) presenting their findings. This can be in the form of a Public Broadcast Announcement or as a “show” that has a host and a panel of experts (flipgrid, imovie, storyboard, google slides)
• DBQ: How have European actions changed the natural environment of Europe? (Social Studies Connection)
• PBL: Future Forecasters-Weather and climate DBQ with argumentative essay: Should weather modification technology be used in the event of a severe weather event?
• STEM Extension: Students will create a weather forecast on their local area.

2nd Semester: Introduce STEM Journals

• Continue with Learning Targets and Mentor Sentences.
• Start STEM Journals
• Appositives, Figures of Speech, Use of motivational quotes, ellipsis, hyphens, commas in writing
• Daily Do Now: Milestones Prep
• Narrative writing: Writing from a different character's point of view, take a section of the text and elaborate, continue the story, and change the ending (students will complete at least 2 writings for every task)
• Novel (spiraled reading standards)
• Students will compose an informational essay with problem solution text structure- What is erosion? How can it be controlled? What are two solutions?
• Review all three types of writing-argumentative, informational, narrative
• Review standards covered on the Milestones
• Review grammar and conventions standards covered on the Milestones
• Daily Do Now: Continue reading comprehension and constructed responses.
• DBQ Should the United States drill for oil in the Alaskan Wilderness? Argumentative writing with the addition of counter argument or rebuttal as acceleration for 7th grade
• Digital products can include: infographic, PSA, commercial, newspaper article, brochure, interactive presentation
