Key takeaways
There were 76 complete entity responses
Survey respondents generally reflected the composition of the overall ecosystem map, though with more future- and innovation-focused organizations (likely due to self-selection bias as respondents with investment in learner-centered innovation were more likely to respond)
Analysis by segment and mission/operating horizon suggests that organizations with future- and innovation-oriented mission horizons operate more frequently in current and innovation ones, particularly those entities closest to deployment in scaled systems (adult roles and development, better tools/resources, and systems transformation)
80 responses from 76 entities (some responses were incomplete, and some entities had multiple respondents).
Rates of response to survey reflected overall map (e.g. 72% nonprofit responses vs 69% on map)
No B-Corps (one respondent noted they were working to obtain B-Corps status)
We coded respondents using the following categories*:
Primary role in the ecosystem-- Informer, Capacity Builder, Learning Support
Mission horizon-- Current, Innovation, and Future
Operating horizon-- Current, Innovation, and Future
Primary focal point for change and innovation-- Adult Roles and Development, Better Tools and Resources, Mindsets and Vision Change, New Learning Models and Experiences, Research and Understanding, Systems Transformation, and Policy
See the "About" section of this site for definitions.
Rates of response by category were generally as expected compared to the overall map with the following exceptions:
Learning Support providers responded at a lower rate, likely as many contacts for larger corporations/ed tech vendors were general accounts (e.g. "info@xyz")
From a mission standpoint... there were more innovation- and future-oriented organizations than in the overall map, which could be explained by the fact that entities focused on learner-centered innovation had higher motivation to respond
As in the case of the map, significantly fewer organizations operate in a future horizon than would be predicted by mission (only ~1/3rd).
Similarly, while only 13% of organizations indicated having a mission in the current horizon, nearly half of the entities operate there.
Looking across focal points for change and innovation...
Those focused on research/building understanding articulated less future-horizon oriented visions and missions
Entities focused on adult roles and development, better tools/resources, and systems transformation (where the rubber hits the road of implementation and demand) seem to operate heavily within "current" horizons
