Priorities for innovation and improvement vary considerably across entities.
Of choices offered, the top two consistent highest priorities relate to improving the quality and consistency of learning experiences and modernizing K-12 experiences.
Digging into the data, we found that these priorities are far from universal, and many entities offered up their own options as well.
We asked entities to share more about the "why" behind their innovation and improvement activities. We asked them to rank their top three from a list of potential priorities:
Accelerating learning in response to the pandemic
Improving the quality and consistency of learning experiences through shared aligned materials, tools, and infrastructure
Increasing opportunities for student self-direction and authorship in learning
"Unbundling" learning opportunities to increase choice, customization, and access for learners and families
Increasing access to career-based, credentialing, and other authentic learning opportunities
Increasing community self-determination and ownership over local learning models
Modernizing K-12 learning experiences in response to future global needs and challenges
Creating liberatory approaches that focus on developing each person to their fullest and thriving in ways that matter to them
Ensuring all students attain mastery of agreed-upon standards and core content knowledge
Ensuring all classrooms reflect culturally responsive and sustaining pedagogy
Addressing comprehensive learner wellbeing to mitigate impacts of poverty and multigenerational trauma
Creating antiracist learning environments
Participants could also add and rank their own priorities by selecting "other."
The chart below shows the listed priorities that showed up most often in the top three, most frequently selected overall, and highest rank when selected.
Digging in further, we explored top priorities by market segment, mission horizon, and innovation focal point. (Priority color in the table below corresponds to the table above.)
Finally, we considered the 21 "other" submitted priorities (9% of the priorities), clustering them by convening themes.
