"We are engaging in a strategy reset to take into account the impact the pandemic has had on K12 schools and learning. Our operating hypothesis is that learning is happening everywhere, well beyond the classroom and school day. We will be running pilots to explore approaches that support students, families and schools to take a more expansive view on where, when, and how learning takes place. An underlying belief is that learning should be student-centered and assessed in new and authentic ways. " - Survey respondent
This is a cross-cutting question, and nearly every entity on the map is exploring and contributing to it.
Of particular note is that, of the nearly 500 entities we mapped, over a quarter are working on supporting school and system redesign (42 entities designing, sharing, propagating, networking or doing related system redesign) and offering new types of supplemental learning opportunities. (These entities are relatively small (2/3rds of those working on new models have fewer than 20 employees.) See below for different "pockets of viable future in the present" examples from within and outside of public schools. We've also included information on two additional entity leaders exploring how to enact new visions for public education within their networks.
(Note: these examples are illustrative and intended to reflect a diverse array of theories, approaches, and stakeholders, including less well-known or emerging initiatives. We also attempted to avoid duplication across categories.)
