General:
Each staff member is given access to a handbook that is published annually by the LCS system and a school handbook that is published by Sheffield Elementary School. These handbooks give current information about policies procedures, and benefits by which LCS and staff of Sheffield operate. Employees are expected to use and be familiar with the general policies and to function within the guidelines. Any policy not stated or implied becomes the responsibility of the individual principal or school.
School board policies, special memos, the school budget, evaluation procedures, job descriptions, and compensation manuals can be found on LCS Commons. School Board meeting minutes can be found online. The staff is expected to be familiar with each of these publications.
Responsibilities:
The professional teaching staff shall be responsible for providing quality instruction that is educationally sound in an atmosphere of mutual respect and courtesy, which is conducive to learning and in which all students are expected to achieve. The staff shall:
Serve as leadership models for effective oral and written communication with special attention to correct use of language and spelling.
Strive to strengthen the basic skills of students in all subjects.
Establish teaching objectives to achieve the following:
Identify what students are expected to learn, and
Inform students of the achievement expected and keep them engaged in learning tasks.
Provide for individual differences of students through the use of differentiated instruction, varied materials, leveled groups, and activities suitable to their interests and abilities.
Assess the progress of students and report promptly and constructively to them and their parents.
Attend to other professional duties and assignments, including the following:
Model the types of behaviors expected of the students and demonstrate a positive approach to student discipline.
Abide by expected work hours and perform all duties in a timely and efficient manner .
Utilize a variety of instructional methods in an effort to address the different learning styles of each student.
Develop and maintain approved, effective DAILY written lesson plans. (see lesson plan expectations)
Dress and conduct yourself professionally at all times.
Maintain close contacts with parents (return requests within 24 hours).
When dealing with students, clearly communicate your expectations and be CONSISTENT.
Have a minimum of one positive parent/guardian communication for each homeroom student within the first interim period.
Maintain accurate records and keep information concerning individual students confidential.
Keep the administration informed about activities taking place in your classroom and special situations which may arise during the year.
Make effective use of your staff period.
All teachers are to be in the building by 8:20 and at their respective classrooms no later than 8:25. Teachers should greet students as they enter the classroom while monitoring the hall and their class.
Complete all professional forms accurately and in a timely fashion.
