Michigan Math and Science Scholars (MMSS)

MMSS is a program designed to introduce high school students to current developments and research in the sciences and to encourage the next generation of researchers to develop and retain a love of mathematics and science.  There are three sessions for the 2019 summer.

Sea Education Association, Woods Hole: SEASCape and SEA Expedition

SEA offers two unique summer high school programs for current high school students, including graduating seniors. Choose from a 3-week shore-based field program on our campus in Woods Hole, Massachusetts on beautiful Cape Cod (SEASCape), or a 2-week at-sea voyage aboard the SSV Corwith Cramer with a focus on oceanographic research under sail (SEA Expedition).

Hampshire College Summer Studies in Mathematics (HCSSIM)

HCSSiM is an intensive six-week encounter with college-level mathematics for talented and highly motivated high school students.  Participants spend a major portion of each day actively engaged in doing mathematics at Hampshire College in Massachusetts.

National Security Language Initiative for Youth (NSLI-Y)

This program prepares American citizens to be leaders in a global world. NSLI-Y goal is to provide opportunities to American youth to interact with different languages and culture and to study abroad.

Ignite LA Earthwatch Scholarship

The Ignite LA Student Science Awards is an innovative program that aims to stimulate curiosity and interest in science and technology through participation in a fully-funded, scientific research expedition on an Earthwatch expedition in the continental US this summer. Keep in mind the application requires two recommendations: one from a science teacher and another from either another teacher (any subject) or an adult mentor.

MIT Women’s Technology Program (GIRLS ONLY)

The MIT Women's Technology Program is a rigorous four-week summer academic and residential experience where female high school students are given the opportunity to explore engineering through hands-on classes, labs, and team-based projects.

Research Science Institute (RSI)

RSI is a summer science & engineering program to combine on-campus course work in scientific theory with off-campus work in science and technology research. Participants experience the entire research cycle from start to finish. They read the most current literature in their field, draft and execute a detailed research plan, and deliver conference-style oral and written reports on their findings.

Telluride Association Summer Program

A free six-week educational experience for high school juniors that offers challenges and rewards rarely encountered in secondary school or even college. Students are able to attend a seminar led by college and university scholars and participate in many other educational and social activities outside the classroom.

Simons Summer Research Program 

The  Simons Summer Research Program gives academically talented, motivated high school students the opportunity to engage in hands-on research in science, math or engineering at Stony Brook University. Simons Fellows work with distinguished faculty mentors, learn laboratory techniques and tools, become part of active research teams, and experience life at a research university. Each high school may nominate a maximum of 3 students.

University of Notre Dame -- Leadership Seminars

Leadership Seminars is a competitive, 10-day program on Notre Dame's campus for academically talented students who show impressive leadership within their communities. Our three new seminars for Summer 2019 seek to address key issues, including climate change, the rise of violent actions across the world, and the role of race in shaping society. Program Date: July 13 - July 24, 2019.  Approximately 90 students are admitted to Leadership Seminars each year, and students are eligible to receive one college credit upon completion of the program.

Girls on Ice

If you are an adventurous, science-loving teenage Mighty Girl looking for a challenge this year, Inspiring Girls Expeditions is currently accepting applications for their free wilderness expedition science program! This year, the non-profit organization is running two expeditions, including ones focused on mountaineering on an Alaskan glacier, rock climbing in the Rocky Mountains. On each trip, a small team of girls will spend up to 12 days exploring and learning through scientific field studies with professional glaciologists, ecologists, mountain guides, and artists.

Harvard Secondary School Program (SSP)

There over 200 courses to choose from. Students are given the opportunity to branch out from typical high school offerings, and explore more advanced topics that aren’t normally available. Students will study with Harvard faculty and visiting scholars, and earn college credit that is transferable to their chosen university.

Bank of America Student Leaders

As a Student Leader, you will participate in an eight-week paid internship at a local nonprofit organization where you will learn first-hand about the needs of your community and the critical role nonprofits play. In addition, you will learn valuable civic, social and business leadership skills. Each Student Leader will attend the Student Leaders Summit held in Washington, D.C. where you will learn how government, business and the nonprofit sector work together to address critical community needs.

Jackson Laboratory – Summer Student Program

The Summer Student Program is designed for students who want to immerse themselves in genetics and genomics research. It emphasizes laboratory discovery, communication of knowledge, and professional growth.  Admission is competitive, and students of all backgrounds are selected. All students receive a stipend of $5,250 for the 10-week program, including room and board at Highseas (Maine program) or at the University of St. Joseph (Connecticut program).  The cost of round-trip travel between the student's home and the Laboratory is also provided.

COSMOS

This Math and Science summer program is open to juniors.  If you’re accepted you’ll spend a month studying math or science at UC Davis, UC Santa Cruz, UC San Diego or UC Irvie.  Students apply to one of the four University of California’s COSMOS campuses — UC Davis, UC Irvine, UC San Diego and UC Santa Cruz. While each campus employs the best practices in STEM education, the curriculum of each program builds on the unique teaching and research expertise of its faculty and host campus. A typical COSMOS student has a GPA of 3.5 or above.

Texas Tech University – Clark Scholars

MIT's MITES Minority Introduction to Engineering and Science Program

MITES is a rigorous six-week residential academic program for students entering their senior year who have a strong academic record and are interested in studying and exploring careers in science and engineering. MITES is a full-time commitment during the summer. This program stresses the value and reward of pursuing advanced technical degrees and careers all while developing the skills necessary to achieve success in fields of science and engineering.

Princeton Summer Journalism Program

The Princeton Summer Journalism Program is an all expenses-paid journalism and college preparation program at Princeton University for high school juniors from low-income backgrounds. Students learn reporting skills from celebrated journalists, report and write their own newspaper, and are paired with a counselor who oversees their college admissions process.

RISE Internship at Boston University 

Students who are passionate about the sciences and currently in their junior year of high school are invited to apply for the Research in Science & Engineering (RISE) program. Spend six weeks at BU conducting university laboratory research with some of the nation's brightest scientific minds, and advance your knowledge and skills in the sciences.

Acting and Performance Summer Institute

The UCLA Acting and Performance Summer Institute is a three-week, UC credit-bearing, intensive program for high school students in theater arts, encompassing performance training classes, movement-based techniques, a final performance project, guest workshops and field trips. American Birding Association (ABA) Young Birder Camps

Each year American Birding Association and its partners offer some fantastic events for young birders, enabling them to get out, learn more about birds, and go birding with others in their age group. Become a Teen Volunteer at Cedars-Sinai Hospital

Teen volunteers can choose to perform clinical or clerical duties:A clinical volunteer helps in a patient-care setting by interacting with patients and clinical staff. Teen volunteers assist at nursing stations; deliver flowers, magazines and amenity items; and run other errands for patients and staff. A clerical volunteer helps with general administrative tasks in departments throughout the medical center, including answering phones, computer work, data entry, filing and other projects.

This FREE, STEM-intensive, college preparatory program for underrepresented high school students of color. Stanford EXPLORE: A Lecture Series on Biomedical Research For High School Students

The Stanford Explore Lecture Series is an exploratory series covering the basic fundamentals and current research areas represented by the various research areas of the Stanford School of Medicine (Immunology, Neuroscience, Cardiovascular Medicine, Regenerative and Stem Cell Medicine, Cancer Biology, Bioengineering, Bioinformatics and Genetics). The lectures will be taught by Stanford Faculty, graduate students and postdoctoral fellows.

SSP – Summer Science Program

SSP is an immersion into experimental science, designed to challenge and inspire rising seniors from all over. Working in teams of three, participants complete a research project from beginning to end: either in Astrophysics or Biochemistry. Student Conservation Association National Crew

SCA’s National Crews offer you a chance to visit places you’ve never been to. At SCA you will be camping in places like Rocky Mountain National Park to the Cumberland Island National Seashore, from Amistad National Recreation Area to the Blue Ridge Parkway public lands across the United States. You’ll be building trails, conserving vital habitats, and protecting natural resources for future generations. National Crews will also set you on the path to other SCA opportunities, like Conservation Internships and team-based Corps positions.

Cronkite Institute for High School Journalism: Summer Journalism Institute

For two weeks every summer, the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication brings top-performing high school students to ASU for two weeks of intensive, hands-on experiences in broadcast and digital journalism.  The 2019 institute will take place June 2-14, 2019. Students are expected to provide their own transportation to and from ASU and cover the cost of incidentals.

Stanford University Mathematics Camp (SuMaC)  

Stanford University Mathematics Camp (SUMaC) leads participants on a journey in advanced mathematics through lectures, guided research, and group problem solving. Canada/ USA Mathcamp

Canada/USA Mathcamp is an intensive 5-week-long summer program for mathematically talented high school students, designed to expose these students to the beauty of advanced mathematical ideas and to new ways of thinking. Cornell Young Birders Event

The Young Birders Event aims to bring together teenagers with a passion for birds and interested in pursuing a career in the field. CDC Museum Disease Detective Camp (DDC)

This free program is provided by the CDC Museum.  Located in Atlanta, Georgia the academic camp is for students who are able to immerse in  public health interventions, global health, infectious disease, chronic disease, injury prevention, data analysis, surveys, school wellness programs, violence prevention, environmental health, emergency preparedness, outbreaks, scientific communication, laboratory technology, disease surveillance, epidemiology, and public health law.

MIT Lincoln Lab Intro for Student Engineers (LLRISE)

The LLRISE program is a summer workshop teaching 18 students how to build small radar systems. This summer STEM program is a FREE two-week residential project-based enrichment program for outstanding students currently in their junior year in high school. This workshop is typically held the end of July.
