How to Apply

The Zoo Magnet is a public magnet program in LAUSD. The on-time Magnet Application window for Fall 2021 admission is NOW CLOSED (as of November 13, 2020). Students may complete a Late Application for Fall 2021 admission beginning on February 1, 2021 through September 17, 2021. In order to attend any LAUSD Magnet, parents must apply through the Unified Enrollment Application. NOTE: We already have a significant waitlist for 9th grade for Fall 2021 and late applicants can only be considered after we go through that full waitlist.

ALSO, we are ONLY accepting 9th grade applicants for Fall 2021. There are no openings for 10th-12th grade.

NOTE: You MUST live within the Los Angeles Unified School District in order to apply.

Applications for Fall 2022 admission will open through in October 2021 with a deadline of mid-November 2021. Please check back in September 2021 for more specific dates/information.

Acceptance Criteria

Students are accepted based on a Magnet Priority Points System. You are assigned points based on matriculation from a magnet middle school, siblings attending the Zoo Magnet, wait lists from previous years, if your home school is designated as PHBAO, and overcrowding at your home school. Magnet Acceptances are sent out mid-March

  1. If you are offered a position, you can accept online at LAUSD's Unified Enrollment website or by calling the Zoo Magnet Office at (323) 364-5710.

  2. If you are waitlisted, you can expect to hear back from us any time between April and August depending on the number and category of openings that become available. Please check email and voicemail regularly as offers of admission must be responded to within three days.
