Mental health includes our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel, and act.
Back in March 2020, we were told school would be closed for two weeks. No one would have imagined how much of our "normal" lives would change for the future months to come.
Some of us may be grieving the loss of family or friends, suffering the impact of social isolation, overwhelmed by racial injustice, or worried about the health of ourselves and families. All the while adapting and learning new skills at an uncomfortable rate to continue showing up for your family and students.
The not knowing about what will happen in a few weeks to later in the future can be overwhelming & cause one to feel anxious. It is because of the uncertainty we feel, we must prioritize our mental health as there is a lot at stake.
When we are stressed, the way we feel, think, behave, and interact can change. We may feel any of the following:
Irritability
Negative attitude or future outlook
Feeling sad, confused, or angry
Not being productive
Excessive anxiety
Difficulty being flexible
Poor concentration
Physical pains and aches
Social withdrawal/Isolating from others
If you are feeling any of the above use it as a guide to work towards your wellness. They are not meant for judgment; everyone is having a hard time adjusting to our new normal. It's okay to be struggling.
