Scotney Class

The students in Scotney Class have been working hard towards their ILP targets, including their individual maths targets. They have been using a range of practical manipulatives to develop their understanding of number value to 10. The students have been building their confidence in recognising and ordering numbers, arranging them from smallest to largest.

During our inquiry learning this week, we explored UK National Inclusion Week and focused on the idea that we all belong together. We learned that although everyone is unique and different, we all have an important place within our community.

The students used symbols to communicate their individual interests and created their own puzzle pieces to represent what makes them special. We then brought the pieces together to show how, despite our differences, we are all connected and belong together.

Scotney Class have been getting to know their surroundings and settling into their new environment over the first few weeks of the term. They have been developing their independence and life skills by helping to keep the kitchen and flat tidy.

The students have been practising putting equipment away in the correct place by matching symbols on the cupboards with the items they are using.

During our ILP sessions, we have been using Colourful Semantics to develop our language skills and support us in describing what is happening in pictures. We have been focusing on identifying who is in the picture, what they are doing, and what object is involved. For example: “The girl is riding a bike.”

During our Science lessons, we have been learning about colour changes through chromatography. We enjoyed observing the colours spread up the paper and showed great curiosity as we discovered how one marker colour could separate into several different colours.

During our PE sessions, we have been focusing on developing our sending skills and improving our accuracy when throwing towards a target. The students have been supported to throw and send a variety of objects, including balls and bean bags, while developing their coordination and control.
