Module 1

This week, as part of our EDI learning, we have based our lessons around UK National Inclusion Week, celebrating what makes each of us unique.

In Food Tech, our students enjoyed making sensory snack pots, exploring different tastes, textures, smells and sounds. They made their own choices about what to include and practised their fine motor skills by pouring and scooping.

In Art, the students created their own individual sensory leaves using a range of arts and craft materials. These will be added to our classroom learning tree, helping us create a tree that celebrates and represents every student in our class.

It has been lovely to see everyone getting involved, making choices and celebrating inclusion!

This week has been all about Roald Dahl, and our main story has been the much-loved The BFG.

Our students have thoroughly enjoyed exploring The BFG Sensory Story and The BFG Sensology sessions. They have shown extreme enjoyment, excitement and engagement throughout both activities, using all of their senses to become fully immersed in the magical world of The BFG.

Throughout the sessions, our students have been given opportunities to explore a range of sensory experiences linked to the story. They have responded wonderfully, showing clear preferences and communicating their likes and dislikes through facial expressions, body language, vocalisations and symbols.

It has been fantastic to see our students so actively engaged and motivated, making choices and communicating their responses in their own individual ways. Their reactions have helped us to understand what they enjoy and how they prefer to engage with the story.

We have loved watching our students explore, communicate, make choices and immerse themselves in the wonderful world of the BFG!

This week has been all about “All About Me”! We have spent time getting to know each student’s likes, dislikes and interests.

Our students have enjoyed making their own art folders, choosing their favourite paints and materials using their own ways of communicating, including eye pointing, gestures, reaching and body language.

They have also created their own calm/self-occupancy boxes, choosing sensory items such as lights, ribbons, creams and other materials they enjoy.

It has been lovely to see our students making choices, expressing their preferences and showing us more about their unique personalities
