Friday Art Club
The Friday Art group has been learning about Pop Art following our visit to the Tate Modern. We’ve been exploring the key characteristics of the movement, including the use of vibrant primary colors, bold outlines, everyday consumer imagery, and commercial printing techniques like Ben-Day dots.
Shopping
Our students have been hard at work getting into the holiday spirit while sharpening their business skills! As part of their enterprise projects, they have been designing custom Christmas and winter products to create and sell.
To make their business ideas profitable, students carried out market research to source their raw materials, comparing suppliers to find the best quality items at the lowest prices. By learning how to manage unit costs and maximize profit margins, our budding entrepreneurs are getting a real taste of what it takes to run a successful business. Stay tuned to see their finished products at our upcoming festive sales!
Coffee Morning
M@W hosted our first coffee morning of the year, welcoming parents and carers to celebrate some of the work we have achieved this term.
Hadlow College Visit
Peter Walker Art Installation: Peace Doves Project
We are delighted to share that M@W has been invited to participate in a large-scale art installation at the world-famous Painted Hall in Greenwich, renowned for its historic baroque decorations by Sir James Thornhill. We will be taking part in the Peace Doves project by renowned sculptor Peter Walker. For millennia, doves have symbolised hope, peace, and love across many cultures, and this mass-participation artwork brings thousands of individual doves together, each bearing a handwritten message of peace.
On the morning of 8th October, a member of the installation team visited us to deliver an inspiring presentation explaining the project and what the students will be creating. Everyone at M@W (including staff!) had the opportunity to decorate a dove with their personal thoughts on what peace means to them.
The finished doves will be woven into the grand installation at the Painted Hall for us to visit later in the year.
This is a fantastic opportunity for our students to see their artwork displayed in such a prestigious venue and to be part of something much bigger than themselves.
