This term, Reception has been busy exploring the topic of houses and homes. We started our learning right here in Dartford, venturing out on a local walk to observe the different types of architecture in our community. The children did a fantastic job spotting and identifying terraced houses, semi-detached houses, and bungalows.
Expanding our horizons, we looked at where houses are located across the country, comparing homes found in cities and towns with those in the countryside and by the seaside. We used the classic fable "The Town Mouse and the Country Mouse" to help us understand these different environments. Finally, to bring our learning inside the home, the children enjoyed reading and retelling "Goldilocks and the Three Bears," using the story to discuss and identify the different rooms found within a house. It has been a wonderful term of exploration and storytelling!
We also looked at how our homes transform during special times of the year. The children explored Diwali, Bonfire Night, and Christmas, comparing different traditions and discussing how decorations change the way our houses look and feel. To finish a wonderful term, the children worked incredibly hard practicing their Nativity. It is a joy to perform for so many parents and end the year on such a festive high!
