What an amazing term it has been! We began our inquiry exploring and investigating toys from the past. We looked at how they are different in comparison with toys today. We then became Scientists and explored various materials that toys were made of and how they were played with.
This led to a scientific test, to find out what materials toys were made from and how toys cars were used in the past since they used no batteries and were pushed and pulled. The children used different materials - wood, paper, foil to create ramps to get their cars to move.
We then became Mathematicians and measured how far the cars would travel using cubes.
In Geography,we used atlases and globes to explore the four countries that make the United Kingdom. We then identified physical and human features in our local area and the jobs that people may have.
In English we read the story Traction Man (a toy from the present) who saved his friends from different situations . We all became Writers and wrote diary entries about the adventures of Traction Man.
As Scientists , we also tested different materials to find out which material will be suitable for a water suit for Traction Man when he dives into water to save his friends.
In Art , we explored primary and secondary colours by mixing . We then explored how warm and cool colours are linked to different emotions.
We completed this term with an amazing Christmas Performance at the church and it was a delight to see all the families there to support Year 1 ! We wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy 2024!
