Little birds have been learning about ‘Sharing the Planet’ this term. They have been ‘Looking at the community and the world that we live in’ by learning about different cultures and celebrations that happen at this time of year.
They started with a bang, learning about bonfire and fireworks night! The children explored painting fireworks and the noises that they make.
Next they explored the festival of Diwali. They learnt about why it is celebrated and how. They made their own rangoli patterns from rice and some of their friends shared how they celebrate Diwali in their house through tapestry.
The Little Birds were also lucky enough to visit the Buddhist Temple on St Albans Road where the Monks taught them about their beliefs and how they celebrate with music and flowers.
Little Birds continued to learn about other world festivals through the books of ‘Let’s Celebrate’ and ‘Little Glow’. They explored the connection and importance of ‘light’ in each of the festivals, including Hanukkah, when they made a handprint Menorah.
Lastly, Little Birds have loved exploring the celebration of Christmas. They have learnt about the Nativity, enjoyed watching a performance of the reception Nativity and of course are excited for Santa to visit!
Have a great Christmas break Little Birds.
