IB News
DPA has kick-started this academic year with some absolutely brilliant inquiries taking place across the whole academy. We are only two terms in, but these have definitely been action packed and filled with countless learning opportunities. Our learners have continued to explore the ten different learner profile attributes, which have assisted them in their learning journeys. In addition to this, the learner profile attributes have been explored throughout our assemblies, storytelling as well as our celebrations of other cultures! This has continued to feed into the ‘Choose To Be Kind’ motto and our children have demonstrated the ability to be caring and respectful individuals.
As an integral part of each unit of inquiry, the children are tasked with the responsibility of taking action and applying their acquired knowledge. They didn’t disappoint! A noteworthy effort has been made by Year 6, who became fundraisers and were able to raise money for the well-known charity ‘Barnardo’s’! They created their own Christmas decorations and sold them to help raise £53 in total - truly following in Dr Barnado’s footsteps!
As we transition into the holiday season, we encourage you to continue utilising ClassDojo to keep us informed about any actions or home learning experiences. Additionally, please share with us the joyous celebrations taking place within your family during this festive period.
In the upcoming term, our attention will be directed towards two new learner profile attributes. Please ensure that you keep your eyes peeled for any special home activities and challenges related to these attributes!
Should your child participate in any form of action, we kindly request that you share those experiences with us through ClassDojo!

Careers Related Learning
It has been a term full of activities relating to careers. Children across the school are able to speak about various careers relating to their learning e.g. Geographers , Nutritionists , Orthodontists etc . and have been given the opportunity to explore these careers in their lessons.
In Year 1 , children became Victorians as they explored toys from the past and compared how they are different or similar to toys now. They were also given an opportunity to understand how the toys were used like the ball and cup and spinning top.
In Year 2 , the children became Potters , as they made clay pots as part of their Art inquiry relating to the Great Fire of London. This was extended further by the children becoming journalists as they retold the events of the Great Fire of London in a newspaper report.
Year 5 and 6 had the pleasure of a National Rail Safety talk from National Rail which discussed various careers and safety on trains.
As part of their inquiry , Year 6 took part in a Victorian workshop.Throughout this session, the children were introduced to the world of Victorian schools and what life was like being a child in the Victorian era. The children were really excited throughout this and even got to become actors and actresses and reenact scenes from Queen Victoria’s coronation and create role plays that demonstrated Victorian inventions!
We ended the term with Poets , Violinists and Singers as the children took part in the Christmas performances , performing class poems , a solo violin performance and singing Christmas songs. DPA is full of talent and it is evident that our children have a bright career path ahead!
We look forward to developing careers further throughout the coming terms .
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year !
