As always, DPA linguists have been very busy this term from year 3 to year 6 and have had the opportunity to practise their impeccable French accents in a variety of activities.
Year 3 have been amazingly eager to learn and have covered the topics of musical instruments. They have learned key vocabulary, have started using whole sentences to express what instrument they play. Importantly, we have also delved into the key grammatical notion of masculine, feminine and plural in a foreign language.
Year 4 have continued their learning with the topic of introducing oneself which includes greetings, saying their age, name, where they live and finally what their nationality is.
Again, a crucial grammatical point has been introduced this term with the adjectival agreement in the masculine and feminine.
Year 5 have eagerly practised their knowledge of all things relating to the weather and seasons, learning to describe the weather in different areas of a country. They have been very creative and have used their amazing communicative and collaborative skills to design and present, as weather forecasters, a fictitious, detailed weather forecast for a chosen French-speaking country. We have also written an Easter card to our French pen friends from our Pia school partnership.
Finally, year 6 have worked on describing where they live, which includes vocabulary of locations as well as the vocabulary relating to rooms in a house. They have practised describing what rooms they have and don’t have, with the positive and negative form of a key linguistic structure. Year 6 have again been given the opportunity to practise their speaking skills in small groups with our Leigh Academy colleague who kindly visits us weekly. All this fantastic work will result in a project advertising a property as the children will be estate agents for the day.
So there has been a lot going on at DPA and I couldn’t be prouder of our children and how they enthusiastically express themselves in a foreign language, whatever their ability. Well done for being risk-taking communicators!
Joyeuses Paques!
